David Lloyd (v1.0
alpha) birthed on the 20th March 1972 - Cardiff, Wales (apparently me mam was
desperate for a shit at time of birth...)

As much as I likes this cool photo of meself, I would like to point out that I
no longer smokes the dreaded fags as I discovered "Allen
Carr's Easyway To Stop Smoking" which completely changed my life and
freed me from a 13 year addiction. (Thanks to Jill from my PGCE course for this
photo.)
Recent Form
Languishing in shame somewhere near the outskirts of Cardiff. Trying hard to make
ends meet creatively, and when failing to do so is busily at work for BBC Wales
as a web monkey where I get paid a decent wage for doing that which I enjoy. Previously
I worked in BBC Wales' News and Current Affairs department, which I didn't enjoy.
As a web monkey for BBC Wales I am in charge of providing and editing the lovely
promotions on the homepage
as well as sorting out stuff for the About
Wales section of the site. I host a message board and paper over the cracks
at all other times. Oh yes - and I have a son due this June. Follow the updated
stuff I want to share on me Blog
- Dirty Dio Bach's Web Fun.
Education
As much as I would like to claim a rebellious childhood avoiding all schooling
other than that in the School of Life, the truth is I was a very conscientious
school attendee.
1983 - 1990: Willows
High School, Cardiff. (GCSEs & A Levels)
1990 - 1991: Howard Gardens Faculty
of Art & Design, Cardiff.
(Foundation in Art & Design)
1992 - 1995: Falmouth School
of Art & Design, Cornwall. (BA[hons] Fine Art)
1998 - 1999: Cyncoed Faculty of
Education and Sport, Cardiff. (PGCE Art & Design)
Exhibitions
I have been fortunate to have had my paintings liked enough to be asked to display
them for people to look at. This is where it happened.
1995: Falmouth School of Art & Design, Cornwall, (Degree Show)
1995: Bang Gallery, Falmouth, (Mixed Show)
1995: The Cambrian Academy, Conwy, (Members Panel)
1996: Bangor Gallery, Gwynedd, (Mixed Show)
1998: Cyncoed Faculty of Education & Sport Gallery, Cardiff, (Mixed Show)
1989 - Present: Poster art, all over Cardiff City center.
In this modern webbed world, David is often displaying his art work for sale world-wide
on Ebay. If he currently has anything up for sale then you can see it here...
Music
1989 - 1992 : Singer for Cardiff Band Charlie
Brown. After we split (I left to go to college), Matthew Scott and Lee Chick
went on to form the band Jack,
with the singer, Anthony, and drummer, Steve, of Cardiff band Boy. Lee and Steve
later left, and Matthew and Anthony moved to London to form the new version of
Jack. This new version
of Jack managed to get
a record deal with a little label called Too
Pure.
They released several albums, and have since supported the likes of Suede, The
Boo Radleys, The Bluetones and many others, as well as playing at all the major
summer festivals and had toured Europe. These days they seem to be big in Europe
and have weird foreign label releases..
1998 - 2000: After years of living in a music-making free wasteland, I got fed
up, learned to play a little guitar and dusted off the old croaky deep throat
for another bash at musical weirdness. Meltwater
got its name after I sat watching a documentary on glaciers (somehow the name
instantly seemed right,) and first of all was used to cover my solo work and then
my later work with Lee Chick (again,) Chris Nurse (we did this weird
electro stuff in the early 90s) and Dave Hollins (of London's finest Easy
Meat).
2002 - Present: Meltwater
has sort of dissolved. Dave Hollins pissed off back to somewhere grim-up-north.
I haven't picked up a guitar in years. I still love trying to make music. I'm
doing it PC style when I get the chance. So far its only been once. It will be
again. When it is, its under the name DJ
Dio Bach.
The name Meltwater is now being used as umbrella name for this collection of work.
I bought the URL. I'm kinda stuck with it. I kinda like it...
Writing
I also love writing short stories, and have started working on a novel, I don't
spend as much time writing as I should - unless you count my hosting duties at
BBC Wales's I
Love Wales board, Dark
Discussions and my Blog
as writing - In which case I do a shed-load!
As for my proper writing, I have had several stories published, as well as winning
a top ten (well number 6, if your going to push me) placing in a short story competition.
I was trying to get my short stories published in a compilation titled 'The Cancer
Bandit and Other Stories' but Seren turned it down and I haven't bothered sorting
out sending it to anyone else which is a shame.
The short stories in this volume are: Mr. Price, The Cancer Bandit, Blinded by
the Light, Day Trip to the Island, Bagman, Sleepless Sleep, Concrete Messages,
Frozen Rain, Barrow Boy, Barraged, and Bingo Voyeur.
The novel has a working title of "Splott Boys do it With Guitars" and
is currently just over a hundred pages in length.
My published works are as follows:
Sleepless Sleep published in 'Breaking the Surface' 1994
Mr. Price published in 'Skald' No.4 1996
Frozen Rain published in 'Beyond the Boundaries' 1996
Blinded by the Light published in 'Beyond the Boundaries 1997 (6th place in the
Welsh Speculative Writers Association short story Competition.)
Photography
I have always taken photos for as long as I can remember, and they are often used
as part of my work, whether drawn from or montaged or just so good (IMO) that
they stand on their own. Some times I take loads of dull snaps, other times I
pretend to be a professional. It keeps me busy and as I rarely get to paint, it
is an immediate way of making images.
As well as the amazingly high quality film photos on this site, I use my lo-res
digital fairly often. I put the masses of digi-scud in web galleries which you
can view here,
but bare in mind they are unprocessed.
I am also selling my photographs as Royalty Free image collections. When I have
sorted that out a bit more I will let you know more...
